INLAND TELEGRAMS.
Hours of business at General Post Office (week days 7 a.m.
to 9 p.m. Sunday from 9 to 10 a.m.
Ayr Docks Branch Office (week days) from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Saturdays from 9 a m. to 2 p.m. No Sunday attendance.
The charge for Telegrams throughout the United Kingdom
is 6d for the first 12 words, and ^d for each additional word.
Every word, including the address, is charged for.
The cost of a Reply, not exceeding 48 words in length, may
be prepaid.
The amount paid for a Telegram covers the cost of delivery
hy foot messenger within three miles of terminal Telegraph
Office, or within the limits of the Town Postal Delivery of
that Office. Beyond the free delivery porterage is charged
at the rate of 3d per mile or part of a mile, calculated from
the terminal Telegraph Office to the address of delivery. The
sender is responsible for the porterage.
POST OFFICE TELEPHONE.
Communication by Telephone has been established between
the most important towns in the United Kingdom.
The scale of charges for three minutes conversation is as
follows : —
For distances not exceeding 25 miles, 3d.
Exceeding 25 miles and not exceeding 50 miles, 6d.
50 „ „ 75 „ 9d.
75 „ „ 100 „ Is.
Every additional 40 miles or fraction thereof, . . . 6d.
When the conversation originates on the system of the Post
Office, and is with a person on the system of the National
Telephone Company, or vice versa, the following additional
charges are made —
When the trunk wire charge for three minutes
conversation does not exceed Is 6d, ... 3d.
Exceeds Is 6d but does not exceed 3s, ... ... 6d.
When it exceeds 3s, 6d.
The period of conversation for a single fee is limited to
three minutes^ but any person may secure the uninteirupted
use of a trunk line for six minutes by prepaying a double fee.
A subscriber of the Pose Office or National Telephone Coy.
may contmue a conversation demanded for three minutes for
a second period of three minutes.

and Samples, must be Prepaid).
