RECEIVING OFFICES.

Newtonhead (Main Street, Newton) — A. Lawson, Receiver,
All ordinary business is transacted at these Offices, with the
exception of Telegraph.
BRANCH OFFICE— Ayr Docks.
Open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Saturday, 9 a. m. to 2 p. m.
All ordinary business is transacted at this Office, with the ex-
ception of Money Orders, and Savings Bank.
Letters are collected at 10 A.M., 1 p.m., 3.45 p.m., 5 p.m., and
8 p.m.
INLAND PARCEL POST.
Parcels not exceeding 11 lbs. in rveight are received at any Post
Office for transmission between places in the United Kingdom.
In order that a packet may go by Parcel Post it must be
tendered for transmission as a parcel, and should bear the words
" Parcel Post," which should be clearly written in the left-hand
top corner.
Every Post Office is open to the public for Parcel Post business
on week days during the same hours as for general postal business.
No Parcel Post business is, as a rule, transacted in England or
Ireland on Sundays, Christmas Days, and Good Fridays ; nor in
Scotland on Sundays and all public holidays.
The following are the principal conditions and regulation : —
The size allowed for an Inland Postal Parcel is : —
Greatest Length 3 ft. 6 in.
Greatest length and girth combined... 6 ft. in.
For example —
A parcel measuring 3 ft. 6 in. in its longest dimension may
measure as much as 2 ft. 6 in. in girth, i.e., round its
thickest part ; or —
A shorter parcel may be thicker ; thus, if it measure no more
than 3 ft. in length, it may measure as much as 3 ft. in
girth, i.e., round its thickest part.
The most convenient mode of measuring is by means of a tape
6 ft. long, having the length of 3 ft. 6 in. marked thereon. So
