Union Bank or Scotland.— High Street. Agents^

AvR Water Company. — This Company is incorporated
by Act of Parliament, which received the E-oyal Assent on
the Sd of July, 1840. The shares are .£25 each, and the
subscribed capital ^8000. The fountain-head is at Low
Grange, near Maybole ; and the pipes, before reaching Ayr,
make a circuit of upwards of eight miles. The supply is
abundant, and the properties of the water have been tested
and highly approved of by Dr Thomson, of Edinburgh, the
eminent analytical chemist. Chairman, Hugh Hamilton ;
Beputi/ -Chairman, Geo. M'Taggart ; Treas., Andrew
Williamson; Cleric, J. D. Boswell.
Ayr Gas Company. — A Joint- stock Company is in pro-
gress of formation for the purchasing of the Gas Works .
The dividends are to be restricted, so that the gas may be
had at a cheaper rate.
Ayr Baths, — Preses, Montgomerie Hamilton : Sec, J.
D. Boswell.
Western Meeting, — This celebrated meeting is held
annually, in September or October. It has existed for
many years. The office-bearers for 1845 are : — Preses,
the Earl of Glasgow. Stewards — William Forbes of Cal-
lendar, for Ayrshire ; A, Campbell of Blythswood, for Ren-
frewshire ; S. H. Stewart of Glasserton, for Wigtonshire;
the Provost of Ayr. Treas., Sir D, H. Blair of Blair-
