UALITY in Printing is
determined by the ideal of
the printer. The earliest
printers were artists of a
high order. .. Then the
printer's mark signified that
the work it adorned was. . .the
expression of his personality, the portrayal
of his ideal, the offspring of his genius.
Printing then was not merely the
mechanical operation of impressing type
upon paper. But it was not destined
to remain alone the handmaid of Art,
Literature, and Religion, and History's
Recording Angel.
The discovery of new and simpler pro-
cesses, the multiplication of machinery
and methods, soon extended the sphere
of the press, and its influence has now
invaded every field of human endeavour
and activity, until it has become the
dominating power in the extension of
the world's commerce and trade.
