The Athenaeum School of Music was established
for the purpcse of providing a thorough high-class
musical education on moderate terms, combined with
all the advantages which have proved so successful
and so beneficial in the promotion of musical culture
in the Continental Conservatoires and the Music
Schools in London and elsewhere.

COTTAGE NURSES' TRAINING HOME.
South Avenue, Copeland Road, Govan.
The Home was instituted in the year 1901 with
the object of bringing within the reach of the rural
population of Scotland the Holt-Ockley system of
nursing, which has proved very successful in England.
The objects of the home as bow developed are ihe
following; — (1) To piovide nursing in their own
homes in n.aternity and other cases for the working
classes and the poor of Govan and surrounding
district, without distinction of creed. (2) To train
women in district nursing to fit them for work as
village nurses in rural districts. (3) To train women
as rural certificated midwives for the Highlands, or
other country districts, where these maybe requiied.
During 1904 the cases and visits were as follows: —
Maternity cases attended, 33(t; general cases nursed,
284; visits paid by tbe nurses, 13,967. The
Elder Cottage Hospital, which owes its origin toMrs.
John Elder's generosity, is worked in connection with
the Training Home. Small fees are charged for the
nurses' services to the working classes of Govan and
di,itrict (tbe necessitous being nursed free of charge),
and fees are also paid by District Associations for
the training of nurses; but the Home requires an
income of at least £^00 per annum from voluntary
subscriptions. Contributions will be thankfully
received and acknowledged by the hon. secretaiy,
from whom copies of the Annual Report and any
other informal ion may be obtained.
