Attendance given at the Weights and Measures Office, Castle, Inver-
ness, every lawful day from 10 A.M. till 4 P.M., and from 7 P.M. till
9 P.M., for the purpose of comparing and stamping all legal weights
brought there from any part of the country.
Caledonian Canal (Originally opened in 1822).
From one end of the Canal to the ether the distance is sixty miles^
The lochs along the route extend to thirty-eight miles, and the Canal
cuttings to twenty-two miles. There are twenty-nine locks on the
line — the rise to the summit level in Loch-Oich being about 100 feet
above high water of ordinary neap tides. The Canal can accommodate
vessels not exceeding in dimensions, over all, viz. — Length, 160 feet;,
width, 38 feet ; draught of water when at the standard level, 15 feet.
