The return of the packets are calculated thus : — ^To and from
Jamaica, 12 weeks — America, 9 — Leeward Islands, 12 — Malta,
53 days — Brazils, 20 weeks — Buenos Ayres, 24 — Mexico, 18. —
From August to January, inclusive, the packet touches at Pei*nam-
buco and Bahia on her outward passage to Rio Janeiro, and the
other six months on her passage homeward. In November, De-
cember, January, and February, the packets touching at Bermuda
go to New York direct ; the other eight months they go and return
by Halifax.
Newspapers.
United Kingdom. — Printed Newspapers liable to the stamp duty,
and duly stamped, which have passed, or which are to pass, by the
General Post within the United Kingdom are delivered free of all
charge, being no longer subject to penny or two-penny post rates,
as heretofore. — Newspapers not having passed, or to pass through
the General Post, but which are put into, and delivered through,
the penny or two-penny post of any city, town, or place, are chai'ged
one penny each on delivery.
British Colonies and Possessions. — Printed Newspapers, duly
stamped, addressed to any of Her Majesty's Colonies and Posses-
sions beyond seas, sent by Her Majesty's packets, forwarded free
of charge — if to be sent by private ships a postage of one penny
each must be paid on putting them into a post-office. Newspapers
sent to India, the Cape of Good Hope, New South Wales, &c. are
no longer charged by weight, but one penny each. Newspapers
printed in the British Colonies and Possessions, brought to the
United Kingdom by Her Majesty's packets, are delivered free of
charge — if brought by private ships, they are charged one penny
each on delivery. Newspapers may be sent from one British Colony
to another, via the United Kingdom, by Her Majesty's packets
fi-ee of postage.
Foreign Parts. — Printed Newspapers, duly stamped, addressed to
the undermentioned countries and places, may be forwarded by Her
Majesty's packets free of charge, viz. — France, Hamburgh, Bremen,
Denmark, Greece, Corfu and Ionian Islands, Spain via Cadiz,
Brazil, Buenos Ayres, Columbia, Caraccas, Carthagena, Bogota,
Hayti or St. Domingo. If sent by private ships, one penny each
must be paid on putting them into a post-office. Newspapers pub-
