NEW DEER.
^EVV DEER is a very extensive parish, tweniy-
eight miles from Aberdeen. The village of New
Deer is iu general well built, and it has a neat
church, with a considerable trade. Two extensive
circulating libiaries contain well selected volumes
in every-depurtmeut of literature. About two miles
from the church stands an old castle called Feddo-
ratt, which appears to have been a place of consi-
derable strength. There are a few remains of Dru-
idical temples & several tumuli have been opened, &
found to contain urns inclosed in stone coffins. Three
miles from New Deer is Brucklay Castle, the seat
of John Dingwall, -esq. built in the year 1540. The
romantic situation, and the beautiful scenery that
surrounds it, must render it a delightful rrsidence.
The lawns are tastefully laid out, and the river tJgie
runs through the park. Fairs are held on the second
Tuesday and Wednesday in October (old style) .
