STAMP DUTIES.
(INLAND filLL) DEAFl' OR ORDER, after the loth Octobei'j
1853, for the payment of any sum of money to the hearer, or to
order, on demand, Id. And the following instruments sliall be
deemed and taken to be drafts or orders for the payment of money
•within the intent and meaning of this Act, and of any act or acts
relating to the stamp duties on bills of exchange^ drafts or orderSj
and shall be chargeable accordingly with the stamp duties impos-
ed by this act or any such act or actSj viz.: All documents or writ-
ings usually termed letters of credit, or whereby any person to
Xvhom any such document or writing is or is intended to be deliver-
ed or sent, shall be entitled, or be intended to be entitled to have
credit with or in account withj or to draw upon any other' person
for, or to receive firom such other person any sum of money therein,
inentioned.
EXE:MPTIONS.-Any Draft or Order drawn by any Banker upon
any other Banker, not payable to bearer, or to order and used solely
for the purpose of settling or clearing any account between said
Banker. Any letter written by a Banker to any other Banker direct-
ing the payment of any sum of money, the same not being pay-
able to bearer or to order, and such letter not being sent or deli-
vered to the person to whom payment is to be made, or to any
person on his behalf.
. INLAND BILL> DRAFT, OR ORDER forthepayment of any
sum of money, though not made payable to the bearer, or to order,
if the same shall be delivered to the payee, or some person on his
or her behalf, the same duty as on a bill of exchange for the like
sum, payable to bearer or oifder. ^
INLAND BILL, DRAFT OR ORDER foi^ the payment of any
stim of money weekly, monthly, or at any other stated periods, rf
iiiade payable to the bearer, or to order, or if delivered to the
payee, or some person on his or her behalf, where the total amount
of the money thereby made payable shall be specified therein, or
can be ascertained therefrom, or shall be indefinite, the same duty
as on a bill payable to bearer or order on demand.
PROMISSORY NOTE for the payment of any sum of money by
instalments, or for the payment of several sums of money at dif-*
ferent days or times, so that the whole of the money to be paid
shall be definite and certain, the same duty as on a promissory
npte, payable otherwise than to the bearer on demand, for a sum
equal to the whole amount of the money to be paid.
