KIEKMICHAEL is an extensive parish in the
upper extremity of the county of Banff, it is about 25
miles in length, varying from 3 to 6 in breadth, and
extends from beyond the mountain of Cairngorm, to
near the confluence of the Levat with the Avon. The
deer forest of Glenavon covers about 60,000 acres.
Ben Machdhui is situated in this parish and is 4,296
feet above the sea level. The Duke of Eichmond and
the Earl of Seafield are heritors. Tomintoul is a
village in the above parish and was formed a quoad
sacra parish in 1853.
