DRUMOAK, KINNELLAR, NEWHILLS, PETERCULTEE, SKENE, BLACKBURN, BUXBUilN,
AUCHMILL, AND STONETWOOD.
ECHT is a parish containing the village of its
name, situated 12 miles west of Aberdeen and about
8^ miles from the Banchory station, on the Deeside
section of the G. N. of Scotland Railway. The parish
is about five miles in length and the same in breadth,
the greater portion of wliich is under cultivation.
Dunecht House, one of the seats of the Earl of Craw-
ford and B'alcarres, is the only residence of note. The
places of worship are the Established and Free
Churches. Fairs are held on the first Monday in
every month, with] the following exceptions — when
they are held on the second Monday in May, the day
before Michaelmas fair in October, and the second
Tuesday in November.
DEUMOAK parish is about four miles in length
and the same in breadth, and is intersected by the
Deeside hue, on which there are two stations. The
chief portion of the parish is in Aberdeenshire, and
the remainder in the adjoining county of Kincardine.
The parish is situated about ten miles from Aberdeen,
its post town.
KINELLAR is an agricultural parish about eight
miles from Aberdeen. It contains the pleasant
village of Blackburn, situated two miles from
the Kinaldie railway station, on the Great North of
Scotland main line. The liigh road from Aberdeen
to Inverness passes through the parish.
NEWHILLS is a parish situated five miles from
Aberdeen, its post town.
BUXBURN is a thriving village in the parish, and
is a station on the main fine of the Great North of
Scotland Railway. Messrs. Alexander Ptrie & Sons
paper mills at Stoneywood in this parish are very
extensive. Messrs. C. Davidson & Sons, Limited,
Mugiemoss Works, are also paper makers and paper
bag manufacturers on a large scale. There are
several granite quarries and corn r rills in the parish.
The places of worship are the Established, the Free,
and the Episcopal Chiu'ches,
PETERCULTER is a parish about eight miles in
length and six in breadth, is situated on the banks of
the Dee, and intersected by the Deeside fine of rail-
way, on which there are stations at Murtle, Mill-
timber, and Culter, in the parish ; the latter is 7f
miles from Aberdeen, its post town. Paper making
is extensively carried on here by the Culter Mills
Paper Co., Limited, at then- works nea-r the 'Julter
station. There is also a manufactory for woollen -
goods. A portion of the j)arish'is under cultivation ;
the surface of the remainder is rocky, marshy, and
otherwise unfitted for agricultural purposes. Estab-
lished and Free Churches in the parish.
SKENE parish is about eight miles from Aberdeen,
its post town, and about the same distance from the
Kintore Junction station, on the G. N. of Scotland
fine. The parish, eight miles long and four broad, is
agricultural, with the exception of the large mill of
Messrs. Alex. Hadden & Sons, woollen manufacturers.
EstabHshed and Free Churches in the parish. A fair
is held on the Tuesday before Easter.
