Queensferry (or South Queensferry), in Linlitligow-
sliire, is well known to travellers, as a steamer passes
to and from several times daily. There are large
wliinstone quarries, employing a number of men.
DALGETTY is a parish bounded on the east by
Aberdour, on the west by luverkeithing, on the south
by the river Forth, and on the north by Dunfermline :
in length it is 5 miles, and in breadth S-j miles. St.
Davids is a small port in this parish, about 1^ miles
east from Inverkeithing. The advantage that this
place affords for the shipment of coal, which is
brought from the colliery at Fordell by a raili^ay line
five miles in length, is very gTeat. Upwards of 500
tons of coal can be sliipped daily. The pier, which is
capable of receiving vessels of 500 tons to receive
their cargoes, is the property of G. W. M. Hender
son, Esq.
CEOSSGATES is a village partly in the parish of
Dunfermhne and partly in that of Dalgetty, about a
quarter of a mile from the station on the North
British Railway. The manufacturing of fire clay and
terra cotta goods is extensively carried on here by
Ord Adams, Esq., and affords employment to a
number of the inhabitants of this district. The
places of worship are an Estabhshed Church and one
for Presbyterians. There is also a board school.
POEDELL is a village in Dalgetty parish, and
about a mile S.E. of Crossgates. It is chiefly
inhabited by miners, who are employed on the estate
