COUNTIES U SCOTLAND,
LISTS OF THE LORDS-LIEUTENANTS, MEMBERS OF PARLIA-
MENT, PUBLIC AND LAW OFFICERS, &c.
ABERDEENSHIRE.
This extensive county forms part of the most eastern portion of Scotland, has
an extensive sea-coast, being bomided on the east and north by the German
Ocean. It has on the south the counties of Kincardine, Forfar, and Perth, and
on the west those of Moray, Banff, and Inverness. Its area consists of about
1,270,000 acres, of which about one-third is arable. The valued rent is
235,665 pounds Scots ; and the annual rental of real property is nearly J700,000.
The population in 1851 is 214,658, having increased at the rate of 12 per cent
since the previous census in 1841. It contains one city, Aberdeen, which returns
one member to Parhament, with a constituency of 4300, and two Royal burghs,
Inverury and Kintore, which, along with Peterhead and the neighbouring Royal
burghs of Elgin, Banff, and Cullen, return one member, ha^dng a joint constitu-
ency of about 900. The county returns one member, with a constituency of
about 4000 registered voters.
