THE ASSOCIATION transacts every description of Life Assurance and Annuity
Business ; and also secures Provisions for Old Age. During 1873 there were
issued 596 New Policies, the Sums Assured thereby amounting to £447,630, and produc-
ing in New Premiums, £14,604.
SECURITY. — The Subscribed Capital of the Association amounts to One Million
Sterling, of which £70,000 has been Paid up. The Accumulated Funds amount to
upwards of £820,000, Securely Invested, and yielding an Average Return of 4|
Per Cent.
PROFITS ascertained and divided every Five Years ; whereof Nine-Tenths (90 Per
Cent.) are appropriated to the Assured. At the Fifth Investigation (Christmas, 1870),
the Net Liabilities to the Assured amounted in value to £576.329. and the Net Assets
(without taking account of the Proprietors' Capital), to £653,397, or fully 13 per
Cent, more than the Liabilities. Out of the Profit of £77.068 thus ascertained to
have arisen during the preceding period of Five Years, Reversionary Bonus Additions
at the rate of
One Pound Ten Shillings per cent, per annum
were made to all Sums Assured by Policies effected on the Participation Scale for the
Whole Term of Life ; — Equivalent Additions being also made to the Endowment
Assurances.
BASIS OF VALUATION.— Carlisle Table of Mortality, combined with Three
per cent. Interest; — only the "Pure" or "Net " Premiums being taken into account,
and the whole " Loading" reserved as a provision for future contingencies. The value
of the "Loading " thus reserved at Christmas, 1870. was £247,378 : a Sum nearly equal
to One-Half of the Net Liability of the Office under its assurance Contracts
THE SIXTH INVESTIGATION will take place at Christmas, 1875, when Policies
effected during 1874 at Full Rates of Premium will rank for
Two Years' Bonus Additions.
NON-FORFEITURE POLICIES -Under this system, Premiums are payable only
for a Limited Number of Years, and each Payment (under certain conditions) secures an
Equivalent Amount of Assurance, without risk of Forfeiture.
