'Sn the SERIES METHOD, Foreign Languages (BOTH CLASSICAL AND
_/ MODERN) are learnt in the most rapid, interesting, and easy way.
The SERIES METHOD (for a full exposition of which the reader is referred to GOUIN'S
ook, The Art of Teaching and Studying Languages) has the paramount advantage of being the most
ecent of all, and therefore an d priori improvement on all previous written or conversational systems.
The SERIES METHOD — as continually improved by Monsieur Louis Latour during
lis eight years' daily experience with British students— may now claim to be the best
iiethod for learning languages and the best systematised approximation to — in fact, QUITE
\S GOOD for most British people as — residence in the country itself. This is ratified by the
lumerous Testimonials given by some of the 1200 STUDENTS that have been attending the
[Edinburgh School and its Glasgow Branch from May 1896 to May 1901.
Besides, the Method has been rendered, by Monsieur Louis Latour, etymological and
Grammatical as well as descriptive and conversatio7ial, and arranged so as to serve all teaching
"iDurposes, so much so that even Commercial language is taught on the Series Method.

Features of the EDINBURGH SCHOOL and of its GLASGOW BRANCH—
1. Daily Classes (morning, afternoon, and evening) in all languages (Classical and Modem) for
Adults and Children.
iV.i?.— The Children's Classes are strongly recommended to Parents and Guardians anxious
to secure an easy and interesting way of learning languages for their boys and girls.
2. Special Classes for Young Ladies particularly recommended as a Finishing Course for
Languages to such Parents and Guardians as would otherwise send their daughters to the
Continent to acquire a thorough conversational knowledge of Languages. Indeed, it is now
proved that a regular attendance at these classes can be quite as efficient as a stay abroad.
3. Classes for Candidates for all Examinations containing Language papers.
4. Commercial Classes for Students wishing to learn languages for Business purposes.
5. Correspondence Classes intended for Students unable to attend the oral classes.
6. Conversational and Literary Clubs for all Languages (members of which are entitled to
the free use of the Reading- Room and Lending Library of the School).
7. Foreign Reading Room (English and Foreign Newspapers and Periodicals) and Lending
Library (of over 2000 Volumes in all Languages).
8. Travelling Scholarships of £\o each are given every year in July, at the rate of one
Scholarship per Twelve Students having regularly attended the classes of the School
during two successive school years.
Provincial Classes are formed on application. Such classes were formed during the last four
years at Galashiels, Dunfermline, Kirkcaldy, Musselburgh, and Haddington.
Translation Office (for translations from and into all languages).
Soirees of the School given every year, and consisting of Foreign Plays performed by
Pupils of the School.
Lectures in French. These Lectures were started in November 1899 and proved most
successful. The first subject chosen is La Comedie en France et «z Angleterre. Every
year's course will include twelve weekly Lectures, beginning in the second week of November.
French Elocution Classes for Ladies (Madame Latour) and Gentlemen (Monsieur
Latour).
I.B.— Monsieur LOUIS LATOUR is assisted by Madame LOUIS LATOUR and an efficient staff of thoroughly
trained Masters— the chief Modern Languages being taught by Natives.
