78 POSTAL DIRECTORY.
EXPRESS DELIVERY SERVICES.
Postal Packets, Letters, and Parcels are delivered by Express Messenger
under the following Services, viz. : —
LOCAL SERVICE. EXPRESS THROUGHOUT.
Scale of Charges.
(a.) For a Letter, Packet, or other article under 1 lb. in weight the Express
fee is : —
For every mile or part of a mile - - - -3d.
For a Letter, Packet, or other article over 1 lb. in weight the Express
fee is : —
For every mile or part of a mile - - - -3d.
For every lb. or part of a lb. beyond the first lb. - l^d.
(6.) If the sender desires that a special conveyance be used, the actual
cost (generally Is. per mile) must be paid in addition to the above charges.
(c.) If the distance exceeds two miles, and a public conveyance (i.e., rail-
way, omnibus, or tramcar, &c.) is not available in both directions ,the actual
cost of a special conveyance must in all cases be paid in addition to the Ex-
press fees.
Replies and Returns.
On the delivery of a letter or parcel, the delivering messenger may take a
reply or perform a further letter or parcel delivery service provided that
a second fee and new postage be paid upon it by addressee of second letter
or parcel.
When a reply or further service is required by the sender, the words
" Wait Reply" or " Further Service " must be written above the address of
the letter or parcel, and the messenger will be allowed to wait 10 minutes.
When a letter or parcel is taken on a return or further service from the
original place of address to an address %vithin half a mile, more or less,o f
the original ofl&ce of posting, half only of the special messenger fee, in addi-
tion to postage, wUl be charged.

EXPRESS DELIVERY AFTER TRANSMISSION BY POST.
Under this Service Letters and Parcels are forwarded by Mail in the
regular course of post, and on arrival at the Office of Delivery are sent out
by Express Messenger.
Fees.
(a.) Ill addition to the full ordinary postage the express fee is : —
For every mile or part of a mile from the Office of
Delivery -3d.
(b.) If the sender desires that a special conveyance be used, or if the
distance exceeds two miles, and a public conveyance is not avail-
able in both directions, the actual cost of a special conveyance
(generally Is. a mile) must be paid in addition to the Express fee
and postage.
(c.) The Sender is responsible for the fee and charges. The fee is in no
case less than Id., and this and the postage must be prepaid by
means of stamps affixed to the Letter or Parcel. When the
distance exceed two miles, or in any case where a special convey-
ance is reqmred, at least one half of the amount payable in respect
of fee and charge for special conveyance must be prepaid, and the
deficiency, if any, will be demanded from the addressee.
(d.) If one half of the Express Fee and charge for special conveyance is
not prepaid, the Letter or Parcel will not be delivered by Special
Messenger, but will be treated as an ordinary Letter or Parcel.
