18/6 Teousers Scheme.
In fixing upon 18/6 as the price at which a first-class Pair of
Trousers can be produced, we are not ignorant of the fact that
Trousers could always he had at 13/6, 15/6, or 16/6. The great
army of producers at these prices — like the lower ranks of every
other trade or profession — has always been crowded to excess with
an ever-increasing mass of inferior talent, it being the common
resource of all those who cannot attain to the higher branches of the
Trade.
On the other hand, the outlet for High-class Trousers at a "mini-
mum " price for Cash is practically unlimited, the producers of High-
class Goods — always a select few in this trade, as in others — having
joined to the sale of their Goods a ridiculous system of lon(j credit,
and, as a necessary consequence, high prices — high prices not because
high-class, hut because of long credit. We were not slow to take advan-
tage of this anomalous state of matters, and the practical result is
that our 18/6 Trousers Scheme has now become one of the best
known and most popular institutions in connection with the Trade
of Glasgow.
