ADVERTISEMENTS.
SIZE— 9 X 5| X 10 (fitted with extra side pipe and strainer).
THE valve motion is the important and characteristic peculiarity of this Pump, as being that
to which it owes its complete immunity from noise or concussive action. Each pump has
two steam cylinders and two double-acting plungers, and the slide valve of the one cylinder isi
worked by a lever which is actuated by the piston rod of the other, thus dispensing with the
whole system of cranks, fly-wheels, loose tappets, and supplemental cylinders, all of which have j
been found in practice more or less objectionable.
The valve motion also allows of the plungers pausing at the end of each stroke sufficiently
long to allow the water to fill the chambers and the valves to settle back in their places before
the return stroke commences. This arrangement removes all shock and water- hammering, and J
makes the pumps peculiarly suitable for feeding boilers, and for other services where exceptionally
high pressures have to be pumped against.
The "Woethikgton" pumps are also positive in their action, the valve arrangement beings
such that they have no dead centre, but in every position of the stroke will start away the
moment steam is admitted — a feature not to be met with in any single direct-acting or crank;
and fly-wheel pump.
Illustrated Catalogues and List of Prices may be had at the Office of the Company,
where also a " TVorthington " Steam Pump may be seen.
