The society was instituted in the year 1806, and
the sphere of its operations includes the parliaijientary
boundary of the City of Glasgow situated on the
south side of the river Clyde. The object of the
society is to afford pecuniary or other relief to the
natives and old inhabitants of the Barony of Gorbals
who are of respectable character ; have been in bet-
ter circumstances, but reduced to a decayed and
indigent state ; and who, not being otherwise suffi-
ciently provided for, stand in need of the society's
aid ; but no one receives assistance from its funds
who is in receipt of parochial relief. Advanced age,
urgent necessity, and respectability of character are
indispensable. Length of residence, next to nativity
preferred ; but applicants must have one or other of
those qualifications. Non-residence at the time of
making application will not exclude from the benefits
of the society. No one is allowed to participate in
the benefits of the Society who is under fifty years
of age, unless labouring under permanent bodily
infirmity. The treasurer supplies forms of application
for aid.

SCOTTISH EPISCOPAL CHURCH.
The Diocesan Council of Glasgow and Galloway,
consisting of the Bishop, all the clergy instituted or
licensed in the diocese, the chancellor, auditor, and
registrar of the diocese, and a lay representative from
each incumbency and licensed mission elected by the
congregation, co-operates locally with the Repre-
sentative Church Council. Hon. secretary, Louson

GLASGOW NORTH QUARTER FUNERAL
SOCIETY.
The above Society meet in the school-room, 13
Balmano Street, on the first Saturdays of March,
June, September, and December at 6 o'clock p.m.,
when members may be enrolled. James Deuchar, 75

WEST OF SCOTLAND CONVALESCENT
SEASIDE HOMES, DUNOON.
This Institution is designed for the necessitous and
deserving of the industrial classes who have been in
illness, in order to give them the benefit of the restora-
tive influences of a short residence at the seaside, dur-
ing the period of convalescence. Since the Homes were
opened thirteen years ago, 20,660 patients have been
restored to health. There is accommodation for 150
persons ; and, added to a generous diet, there is afforded
the benefit of the best medical advice and medicines,
as also the use of superior hot and cold water baths.
The Board of Management earnestly appeal for annual
subscriptions and donations, these being the only
source of revenue. It may be well to mention that
each donor of £10, or annual subscriber of £1, is
entitled to recommend one person annually for admis-
sion to the Homes.

EWING BEQUESTS.
Founded in 1860 by James Ewing of Strathleven.
The total amount of the bequests is £30,000, of which
£16,500, less legacy duty, has been paid. The in-
come is divisible — one-third among decayed Glasgow
merchants, one-third in educating, training, and set-
ting in business their sons, and the remaining one-
third among their widows and daughters. Income

This society, among other objects, provides clothing
and surgical appliances for necessitous patients leaving
the infirmary, gives temporary help to their families,
seeks to obtain employment for the cured, and sends
convalescents to Lenzie and the Sea-side Homes.
