HOUSE OF SHELTER FOR FEMALES.
4 Hill Street, Garnet Hill.
The " Shelter " was instituted in 1850 ; its object
being to provide a home for females on their libera-
tioa from prison, who are desirous to reform and to
support themselves by honest industry. The averao:e
number of inmates in the "Shelter" is about 36.
They are employed in needle-work, the institution
receiving tlie proceeds of their labour, in return for
which the inmates are lodged, fed, and clothed.

ASSOCIATION FOR THE RELIEF OF INCU-
RABLES FOR GLASGOW AND THE WEST
OF SCOTLAND.

This association has for its objects the establishment
and maintenance of one prmore hospitals for the relief of
persons in Glasgow and the West of Scotland labour-
ing under chronic and incurable diseases, and the
aiding of such persons in their own homes. The
assoiiation has an institution at Kirkintilloch, Dum-
bartonshire, known as Broomliill Home, and
spends a large sum monthly in assisting incur-
ables in their own houses. The whole affairs of
the association are managed by a board of directors
consisting of twenty-one members, in addition to Miss
Beatrice Clugston, as promoter, and eighteen ex

The society was instituted in 1790 for the purpose
of giving encouragement to efforts for rescuing persons
from drowning on the Clyde and other waters in the
\vest of Scotland. An officer is kept permanently
stationed at the society's house in the Green, pro-
vided with proper apparatus for saving life and
resuscitation. The society gives rewards in money,
and occasionally awards their medal, to persons who
have particularly distinguished themselves by their
efforts in saving human life.

PERTHSHIRE CHARITABLE.
The principal object of this society, the qualifica-
tion for membership of which consists of a small sum
of entry-money, is to afford relief to persons in indi-
gent circumstances, natives, or widows of natives of
Perthshire, and their children resident in Glasgow
and the neighbourhood, or passing through the city,
unexpectedly failing into distress.

GLASGOW MISSION TO THE OUT-DOOR
BLIND
Has under its care about 900 blind people
resident in Glasgow and neighbourhood, Greenock
Port-Glasgow, and the counties of Lanark and Ayr.
These blind persons are sought out, visited at their
own houses, taught to read, and provided with books
in raised type. And many of them being in extreme
destitution, means are much needed to relieve their
pressing wants, and to aid them in procuring em-
ployment.
