CHARITABLE AND FEIENDLY INSTITUTIONS.
GLASGOW BROWN'S SOCIETY.
Members of this society must bear tbe name of
Brown, or be connected with persons of that name,
as hnsb ands, or sons, or sons-in-law, or grandsons,
Each entrant shall contribute at least two guineas
on becoming a member, but a larger contribution
may be given by any one so disposed. Donations are
received from persons of any name, and every contri-
butor of one guinea, at least, shall be considered an
honorary member. The annual General ]\Ieeting is
held on the second Thursday of March; Managers'
meetings on the first Thursday of March, June,
Sep., and Dec. The annual produce of the capital
stock is from time to time applied towards relieving
necessitous members, or their widows or children, and
may be employed in placing the children of indigent
members at trades or schools.

p.m. and 7 pm. on Sabbaths ; and Wednesday and
Saturday, 8 p.m.
The above society, instituted to promote the tem-
poral and spiritual interests of seamen, supports a
chaplain and missionaries, educates seamen's orphaa
children, supplies libraries to ships, and offers the
advantages of the Seamen's Institute free to sailors,
is entirely supported by voluntary contributions. Lega-
cies, donations, and subscriptions earnestly solicited.
GLASGOW ANGUS AND MEARNS
BENEVOLENT SOCIETY.
Its object is to afford temporary relief to natives
and widows of natives and their families who have
fallen into distress, resident in or near Glasgow.
It has two scholarships at Glasgow University,
value £15 a year, tenable for four years, for the arts
classes, open to natives and sons of natives.
A contribution of £3 3s. constitutes membership,
payable either at entry or in three annual instalments
of £1 Is.

This Society has for its object the relief of its
Members who may be incapable of attending to busi
ness through sickness &c., and for securing at deatl
a payment for Funeral Expenses. The Sick Allow
ance after one year's probation is 10s. weekly fo
thirteen weeks, 7s. 6d. for thirteen weeks, 5s. fo
thirteen weeks, and 3s. weekly while theindisposi
tion continues, and Ten Pounds for funeral expenses
