of Handel's Messiah ; and the chief novelties produced
at the remainder were Sullivan's Prodigal Son, con-
ducted by the author; Mendelssohn's " Man is Mor-
tal," and " Hear my Prayer," a Motett by Bach, and
Wesley's ' 'In Exitu Israel."
GLASGOW CHORAL UNION.
Formed in 1855 by the amalgamation of the
Glasgow Musical Association, instituted in 1843,
and the Glasgow Harmonic Society, instituted in
1850. H. A. Lambeth, conductor.
The various meetings of the Union are held in
the Lesser City Hall, every Monday, Tuesday, and
Wednesday evening, during the season (from Sep-
tember till May). Part practisings are held on
Mondays, orchestral practisings on Tuesdays, and
full choral rehearsals on Wednesdays.
The object of the union is to cultivate and diffuse
the knowledge of, and taste for, classical music; and
for this purpose frequent public performances are
given.
Members of the Union (gentlemen) pay an annual
subscription of 5s.
Ladies or gentlemen subscribing one guinea and a
half per annum are entitled to two reserved seats at
the four principal concerts given by the Union during
the currency of the subscription ; those subscribing
one guinea per annum receive two tickets for reserved
benches in side galleries, or under side galleries, for
the aforesaid four concerts.
During session 1870-71 four subscribers' concerts
were given in the City Hall, viz : — Two in November,
with Wynne, Drasdil, Sims Reeves, and Stockhausen
as soloists, and orchestra from Berlin ; one on New
Year's Day morning; and one in February, with
Titiens, Sinico, Vizzani, Foli, Bevignani, &c, as
principal artists. Four popular concerts were also
given, two in the City Hall, and two in the Cathe-
dral. The above concerts include two performances

GLASGOW ART CLUB.
Instituted 1867.

The object of this Club is the study of art, which
it seeks to promote by the circulation monthly among
its members of a folio book of original paintings and
sketches in oil and water colour, etchings, &c. ; by
criticism on these ; and by conversation and discus-
sion on subjects relating to art.
The meetings of the Club are held on the last
Saturday evening of each month.
Intending applicants for membership will receive
all necessary information from the secretary, with
whom applications must also be lodged, accompanied
in each case by three specimen sketches on approval.
