TIDE TABLE OF SOME OF THE PEINCIPAL PORTS IN ENGLAND, SCOTLAND,
AND lEELAND.
The times of High Water at full and change of the moon, from which the following equations are calcu-
lated, are reckoned from apparent noon. They represent the actual times of High Water when the mooa
passes the meridian at the same time as the sun, or the intervals between the times of transit of the moon
and the times of High Water on full and change days. With which, and the equation of time, the times of
High Water at all the Ports here given will be obtained by addition, as here annexed.

In the year 1866 there will be three eclipses of the Sun, and two of the Moon.
I. — A partial Eclipse of the Sun, March 16th, invisible at Greenwich. Begins on the earth generally,
March 16th, 8 h. 50 m. p.m., mean time at Greenwich, in long. 141° 34' E. of Greenwich, and lat.
49"' 51' N. ; ends 10 h. 52-5 m. p.m., long. 90° 6' W. of Greenwich, and lat. 85° 21' N.
II. — A total Eclipse of the Moon, March 31st, partly visible at Greenwich. First contact with the
penumbra, March 31st, 1 h. 28 m. a.m. ; last contact with the penumbra, 31st, 7 h. 39 m. a.m.
III. — A partial Eclipse of the Sun, April 16th, invisible at Greenwich. Begins on the earth generally,
April 15th, 5 h. 11 m. a.m., mean time at Greenwich, in long. 33° 30' E. of Greenwich, and lat. 64° 55'
S. ; ends on the earth generally, April 15th, 8 h. 32 m, a.m., in long. 135° 25' E. of Greenwich, and
34° 15' S.
IV. — A total Eclipse of the Moon, September 24th, invisible at Greenwich.
V. — A partial Eclipse of the Sun, October 8th, partly visible at Greenwich. Begins on the earth
generally, October 8th, 2 h. 52 m. p.m., mean time at Greenwich, in long. 120° 59' W. of Greenwich,
and lat." 68° 15' N. Ends on the earth generally, October 8th, 6 h. 37 m. p.m., in long. 16° 25' W. of
Greenwich, and lat. 34° 38' N.
NOTICE.
The latitude of Glasgow is 55-52, and the longitude 4-16 west of Greenwich, consequently there should
be 17 minutes of difference of time between the clocks of Glasgow and the clocks of Greenwich, but the
clocks of Glasgow are now adjusted to Greenwich mean time.
