As the advantages and appliances of Asphalte are not generally known, these may
with propriety be here noted.
Not only, when properly Manufactured and Laid, does it form a cheap and durable
Pavement, but its Imperviousness to Damp and Vermin, recommends it as the best
sort of Flooring for Dwelling-Houses, Cellars, Cotton Factories, Grain Mills, and Gra-
naries, Cotton and other Stores, Barns, Stables, Dairies, &c. It has also of late been
successfully introduced as a Roofing for Fire-Proof Mills, and as a Covering for Under-
ground Vaults. Equally adapted is it to the formation of Gutters and Recesses, what-
ever their form or depth.
Builders and Contractors who prefer laying Asphalte themselves may be supplied
with BITUMEN, of best Quality, on liberal terms.
