Inland Eegistkation.
The fee for registering any Inland postal packet (parcels included) is-
twopence, and this registration fee and the postage must be prepaid.
Every article presented for registration must be enclosed in a strong cover,
securely fastened. It must be given to an Agent of the Post Office, and a-
receipt obtained for it. If, contrary to this rule, an article marked
"Registered" be dropped into a letter-box, it will be liable to a registration
fee of 8d (less any amount prepaid for registration).
Every article presented for registration should be marked "Registered,"
and with the amount of the fee proper to the value up to which the sender
desires to secure compensation, thus — "Registered 2d," or "Registered Sd."^
Inland postal packets containing coin, watches, or jewellery, if posted
without registration, are subject to compulsory registration, and are charged
on delivery with a fee of 8d, in addition to the ordinary i^ostage ; but siicli
compulsory registration gives no title to compensation for loss or damage.
The sender of an Inland jjostal packet may obtain an acknowledgment of it&
due delivery by paying, at the time of posting, a fee of 2d in addition to the
postage and registration fee.
The Postmaster- General will (subject to certain rules) give compensation
for the loss and dainage of Inland Registered Postal Packets of all kinds upon
prepayment of a fee in addition to the postage. This fee either consists of,
or includes in each case, the ordinary registration fee of 2d ; and the scale of
fees and the respective limits of comiDensation are as follows : —
Fee 5d, Compensation £20.
,, 6d, ,, £25.
Fee 2d, Compensation £5.
,, 3d, „ £10.
,, 4d, „ £15.
The registered Parcel Post is also available for watches and jewellery.-
Monej^ may also be sent in a registered parcel, but no compensation will be
given in respect of the loss or damage of such parcel.
Post Office Express Delivery of Letters and Parcels.
Letters and Parcels are accej)ted at the Head Post Office for immediate-
despatch to any part of the Town Postal Area. They must be handed in over'
the counter at the Head Post Office, and the words " Express Delivery " must
be written above the address by the sender.
The fee for the Express conveyance and delivery of a letter or parcel, in
addition to the fvill ordinary prepaid postage, but exclusive of charges for'
omnibus, tramcar, and railway conveyance, will be as follows : —
For the first mile or under, - - - - - - 2d.
For every mile or part of a mile beyond the first, - - 3d.
The postage and fee must be prepaid in postage stamps affixed to a Post
Office form provided for the purpose. Cabs will be used if specially paid for.
On the delivery of a letter or parcel, the messenger may take a reply or
perform a further delivery service, provided that a second fee and new postage
be paid. When a reply or further service is required by the sender, the words-
"Wait Reply" or "Further Service" must be written above the address.
When a letter or parcel is taken on a return or further service to an address-
within half a mile, more or less, of the original office of j)osting, half only the
special messenger fee, in addition to postage, will be charged.
Re-direction.
Letters and Postal Packets are, when re-directed, liable to additional charge
for each re-direction unless both the original and the second address are
within the delivery of the same Post Office. Notices of Removal and appli-
cations for letters to be re-directed must in all cases be duly signed by the
person to whom the letters are addressed. Printed forms can be obtained
from the local Postmaster.
