The objects of this Institution, -which is entirely
supported by voluntary contributions, are (1) to pro-
vide for the medical and surgical treatment of women
afflicted with disease, and more especially with disease
peculiar to their sex, unsuitable for the wards of a
general infirmary, and to provide a dispensary and
furnish advice and medicine to those who cannot be
received into the hospital ; (2) to promote the ad-
vancement of medical and surgical science with
reference to diseases of women, and to provide for
the efficient instruction of students in this depart-
ment of medical knowledge ; and (3) to educate and
train women in the special duties of women's nurses.
Patients admitted to the hospital on Mondays, Tues-
days, Thursdays, and Fridays ; but cases of urgency
admitted at any time. The dispensary, open for free
advice on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, at
4 p.m.
GLASGOW AYRSHIRE SOCIETY.
Instituted 1761.

This is a charitable society — I. For the relief of
persons in reduced or destitute circumstances, but
not receiving parochial relief, in the order of prece-
dence following : — (1) Members of the society ; (2)
the widows, sisters, brothers, or descendants of
members; (3) natives of Ayrshire resident in Glasgow.
II. For the education of children resident in Glasgow,
of existing or deceased members, or of children them-
selves natives or children of natives of Ayrshire ; and
III. For assisting by bursaries young men wishing
to pursue their studies in the University of Glasgow,
who are either descendants of members, or natives
of Ayrshire, or sons of natives resident in Glasgow.
All persons may become members who are natives
of Ayrshire, or have an interest in the county by
property, business, or residence, or are connected
by marriage or relationship with members, or with
persons qualified to be members. Entry money,
£3 33., and no further payment is required.
M 'ALPINE'S MORTIFICATION.
Founded in 1811 by Mrs. M'Alpine, who conveyed
to trustees her property for the maintenance of poor
men and women of the description given in her will
— the former receiving annually £10, and the latter
£5. The trustees are the Deacon Convener and the
Ministers of eight of the Established Churches.

The society was instituted in 1791 for the purpose
of providing a fund out of which certain allowances
might be made to the ordinary members of the society
during sickness, infirmity, and superannuation.
The entry money for ordinary members is 10s. 6d.,
besides quarter accounts in proportion to age. Hono-
rary members are admitted on payment of £1 Is.
and upwards to the benevolent fund.
ROBERTSON BEQUEST.
Founded by Miss Isobel Robertson, 5th August,
1844. The funds are to be distributed amongst (1)
ten decayed gentlewomen, who shall have been re-
siding for at least 10 years in Glasgow, who shall
not be less than 45 years of age, and shall never
have been married ; (2) ten females each of whom
shall have, for at least seven years consecutively,
been a hired servant in one family in Glasgow, shall
not be under 50 years of age, shall never have been
married, and at the time of selection shall be out of
service. Amount of Pensions at present (1) £9,
and (2) £4 10s.

The principal object of the society is to grant
charitable relief to the natives of the Orkney and
Shetland islands, their children, or widows, residing
in Glasgow or its neighbourhood, or travelling through
Glasgow, and who, from sickness or sudden emer-
gency, may be in want of temporary aid. No
applicant shall be relieved whose character for
honesty, sobriety, and industry has not been satis-
