"The PARLIAMENTARY RETURN of the INSURANCE DUTY paid in 186.5
has just been published, and is the last Return wliich will embody the Differential Rates,
on Stock (l5. 6d, per cent.), and on Buildings and Furniture (3s. per cent.)
"For the purpose of comparing the business of each Company in 1865 with that in
1864, we have made up an account for the Two Years as though the duty had remained at
3s. per cent. We thus get a measure of the progress of each Company, and the result is
as follows: —

Insurance Company is Increasing its Business, in Great Britain and Ireland,
more rat)idly than any other Insurance Office, its Increase being nearly 30 per
