LIFE ASSURANCE COmPANY.
THIS COMPANY was Establisbed at Ediaburgh in 1825. The Acts of Parliament 2nd and 3rd
Gul. IV., cap. 81, and 8th and 9th Vict., cap. 75, also the 22nd and 23rd Vict., cap. 27, have been
pranted for the purpose of its constitution and for the regulation of its affairs. It has been conducted with
much success, which ma}' be attributed^ not only to its extensive and influential connections, but more
particularly to the liberality of its dealings, and to the constant attention paid by the Directors to the
adoption of improvements and facilities in connection with the contract of Life Assui-ance. The Amount
OF New Assurances efifected during the j'ear 1866 was £1,190,281 lis. 2d., and the Total Sdjis
Assured now amount to above Fifteen Millions Sterling. The Company's Income, which is rapidly
increasing, is upwards of Six Hundred and Seventy Thousand Pounds Sterling per annum. The
Accumulated Fund, which is upwards of Three Millions Seven Hundred Thousand Pounds
Sterling, is invested in Government Securities; Loans on the security of Land, by Bond and Mortgage;
Landed Property; Advances to the Company's Policj'-holders, and other undoubted Securities. These
Invejitments were speciallj' investigated, on occasion of the Division of Profits in 1865, by a Committee of
Professional gentlemen appointed for the pur^iose, whose report will be found in the Company's Prospectus.
The Company's Profits have been divided oa Seven occasions — 1835, 1840, 1845, 1850, 1855, 1860,
and 1865- The next Division will take place ii 1870j and at intervals of Five Years thereafter.
