ADVERTISEMENTS.
173
THIS Mission was instituted in GIds:;o« iii Deccmlci, ISjj. it is ttiicflv untectaiiaii; is an entirely
Missionary movement, and is thorouglily aggressive in its character. Dining tliese eighteen months
eight Auxiliaries have been formed, and are in active operation along tile Coast from Port-Glasj;o\v to Girvan,
and other three societies are in course of organization. Five Missionaries are labouring in the above section of
Coast, and a small Yacht, with four Agents, have also been procured^in order to carry furvvard the work
among the Islands.
Tiie grand design of the Mission is to afford facility for the introduction of active Home M ission Agency,
upon strictly unsectarian principles, in every needy locality on the Coasts and Islands of Scotland, with a special
view to the improvement of the moral and religious condition of Sailors and Fishermen.
Our 300,000 British Seamen claim the deepest sympathy and most active exertions of the Christian
Church. Towns with a population of 6,000, 7,000, and 8,000, of whom not more than 1,000 to 1,500 re-
spectively are found to attend all places of worship, need Missionaries. The Coast Mission has supplied such
place;, and has an Agency fitted and intended to carry forward its extension to other localities more or less
destitute.
