FARES AND DISTANCES OF HACKNEY CAERIAGE3.
PUBLIC STANDS.
The following places are hereby deemed and ap-
pointed Public Stands, under reservation of all rights
of private leasehold property, viz : —
1. Edinburgh and Glasgow Railway Ter-
minus, including St. Vincent place ;
two cabs in front of Royal Exchange ;
not exceeding ten cabs on the south side
of George square, six on the east side,
six on the north side of the square, and
twelve in the centre of Cochran street.
No cabs permitted to stand on the west
side of George square, and those on the
north side of the square and in Cochran
street are only allowed to stand from 6
a.m. to 11 p.m.
2. Caledonian Railway, Buchanan Street, and
Princes Theatre.
3. Glasgow, Paisley, and South-Western
Railway, Arrival and Departure Ter-
minus, including Clyde place and Com-
merce street.
4. Caledonian and Barrhead Railway Station,
Upper Main street, Gorbals, including
north side of Cumberland street, from
Main street to Surrey street.
5. Paisley road, near Kinning place.
G. Broomielaw, Upper Wharf, including west
side of Robertson street.
7. St. Enoch square.
a. Gordon street, west end, and Hope street ;
restricted to three in each street, and not
more than six cabs in St. Vincent street,
between Renfield street and Hope street.
9. Cambridge street and West Campbell st.
10. Berkeley street and Kent road, and not
more than three carriages top of North
street, near Woodside crescent.
11. West end of Sauchiehall street.
12. Great Western road, near bridge.
13. St. George's road, north end.
14. Normal School, New City road.
15. Monkland St., Townhead, nc-ir St. Rollox
police station.
IG. Wilson street, and not exceeding four
cabs in Glassford street.
17. The Cross, including London street.
18. Graham square, west side.
Carriages let out for hire at other places, or met
with, if not engaged. — All carriages let out on any
station or place for hire shall be subject to the Stand
Rules ; as also carriages when met with, if not at the
time actually engaged.
Driver to Deliver Reference Ticlcet on demand to
Hirer of Carriage. — Every driver shall deliver to
the person hiring his carriage (if demanded), either
when entering the carriage, on any part of the jour-
ney, or at its termination, a ticket, according to the
pattern shown in the office of the Registrar, having
printed thereon the number of the carriage, the
name and address of the proprietor, and the follow-
ing words — " Reference in case of incivility, loss, or
overcharge."
FAEES.
It shall be iu the option of the hirer to engage
any hackney carriage, either by time or distance,
provided this is done at the time of hiring.
Fares ly Distance. — When a party not exceeding
two grown-up persons, and without any luggage
other than a carpet bag, or the like, eaters a car-
riage at a stand (not being one of the Railway
Stations), or when driving along disengaged, they
shall be driven half a mile, or any less distance, for
Sixpence, and if they return, they shall pay another
Sixpence.
The following Fares to be allowed for distances
above half a mile, viz : —
I. Not exceeding a mile and a half: —
For a party of not more than three grown-up 5. d.

For each additional grown-up person, . . . G
II. Exceeding a mile and a half: —
For a party of not more than four grown-up
persons for any distance exceeding a mile
and a half, and not exceeding two miles, . 1 G
For each additional grown-up person for the
whole length of the journey, G
For each additional half mile or part thereof, 6
These rates to include going from the nearest Stand
to the hirer's residence, and waiting ten minutes ;
but if detained more than ten minutes. Sixpence
to be allowed for each additional fifteen minutes,
or part thereof.
The fare for any distance beyond five miles to be
the subject of special agreement.
Should the driver require to go more than three
hundred yards from the j'ard or stand where the
carriage is taken to the hirer's residence, there will
be a charge of Sixpence extra.
Half fare returning, which the hirer shall have the
option of doing.
When parties return, and the fare going is One
Shilling, the carriage shall wait ten minutes without
any charge for Avaiting; when One Shilling and
Sixpence, fifteen minutes ; when Two Shillings and
upwards, twenty minutes. If the carriage be de-
tained longer, a charge shall be allowed for waiting,
at the rate of Sixpence for every fifteen minutes, or
part thereof, commencing at the period when the free
waiting expires.
When a carriage is called, but not used, a charge
of Sixpence shall be allowed, if the place to which it
is called be under half a mile from the nearest Stand,
and One Shilling if beyond that.
Fare hy Time. — For shopping, making calls, and
the like, where the driving is not continuous, the
charge shall be One Shilling for the first half hour,
and Sixpence for every additional quarter of an hour,
or part thereof.
For an airing in the country not exceeding five
miles from the General Post Ofiice, and returning
either hy the same or a dilFerent road, the rate shall
be Sixpence for every ten minutes, and the rate of
driving shall be at least six miles an hour, unless the
hirer wishes a slower pace.
Whether the Fares are ly Distance or hy Time. —
The hirer pays tolls.
If there be more than three grown-up persons
driven, besides the Sixpence extra allowed for each
additional grown-up person. Sixpence to be paid for
each two children above six and under twelve years
of age, for the whole journey. No charge for one
child above six, or children under sis.
No charge for luggage unless it exceeds 100 lbs
