TIDE TABLE OF SOME OF THE PRINCIPAL PORTS IN ENGLAND, SCOTIAND,
AND IRELAND.
The tiroes of High Water at full and change of the moon, from which the following equations are calcu-
lated, are reckoned from apparent noon. They represent the actual times of Iligh Water -when the moon
passes the meridian at the same time as the sun, or the intervals between the times of transit of the moon
and the times of High Water on full and change days. With which, and the equation of time, the times
of High Water at all the Ports here given will be obtained by addition, as here annexed.

ECLIPSES OF THE SUN AND MOON.
In the year 1861 there will be three Eclipses of the Sun, one of the Moon, and a Transit of Mercury over
the Sun's disc.
I. — An annular Eclipse of the Sun, January 11, 1861, invisible at Greenwich. Begins on the earth
generally, January 11, at 35 minutes past 12 a.m. (or 11 d. h. 25 m. a.m.) Ends on the 11 d. 6 h.
23 m. A.M. Begins 72° 12' east, and latitude 19° 32' south. Ends 173° 13' east, and latitude 7° 35'
north.
II. — An annular Eclipse of the Sun, July Y, invisible at Greenwich. Begins on the earth generalh',
July 7, 11 h. 18 m. p.m., and ends on 8 d. 5 h. 1 m. a.m. mean time at Greenwich. Begins 100° 6' east,
latitude 3° 54' north. Ends 172° 26' west, and latitude 19° 11' south.
HI. — A partial Eclipse of the Moon, December 17) partly visible at Gfeenwich.
IV. — A total Eclipse of the Sun, December 31, visible (as a partial one) at Greenwich. Begins on the
earth generally, December 31, 11 h. 15 m. a.m., mean time at Greenwich, in longitude 74° 1' west of Green-
wich, and latitude 9° 1' north, and ends on the earth generally 31 d. 4 h. 23 m. p.m., in longitude 12° 38'
east of Greenwich, and latitude 27° 13' north.
