M'ALPINE'S MORTIFICATION.
Founded in 1811, by Mrs. M'Alpine, who con-
veyed to Trustees her property for the maintenance
of poor men and women of the description given in
her will — the former receiving annually £10, and
the latter £5. The Trustees are, the Deacon Con-
vener, and the Ministers of eight of the Established
Churches.

The principal object of this Society is to afford
pecuniar}' aid to indigent natives, or widows or

near, or passing through Glasgow. The subscription
of one guinea per annum for four years, constitutes
membership to parties eligible by connection with
any of these counties.

The annuities, immediate or deferred, commence
at 30 years and above, at the option of the mem-
ber, and they amount to any sum, from £10 up-
wards. Either sex, of any age, is admitted.
The mutual principal, economical management,
secure investment, and annual investigation, render
this institution one of the cheapest and safest in the
kingdom.

This Society was instituted in 1785, and now
possesses a capital of upwards of £1100. Its mem-
bers, who must be parties connected by birth, pa-
rentage, or marriage, with one of the Upper Ward
of Lanarkshire parishes, or have resided therein
for 10 years, are entitled to 8s. per week when con-
fined to bed ; 5s. per week when unable to attend
their employment ; and 3s. per week when super-
annuated. The entry-money is 10s. 6d., and tlie
quarterly payments range from 2s. Id. at 15, to 4s.
6d. at 60 years of age.

Having for its objects the universal abolition of
slavery and the slave trade ; the protection of the
rights of the aborigines in the British Colonies; and
the improvement of the condition of our fellow-
subjects, the natives of British India.

THE SCOTTISH (EPISCOPAL) CHURCH
SOCIETY.
This has for its objects — 1. A fund for aged or
infirm clergymen, or salaries for their curates ; and
general aid for congregations struggling with pecu-
niary difficulties. 2. To provide Episcopal school-
masters, schools, books and tracts for the poor.
3. Building and repairing of parsonages. 4. To
raise the salaries of incumbents to £100 a-year,
where congregations are weak and poor.
