John A. Beaumont, Esq., Managing Director.
IlHE Annual Meeting of the Proprietors of the County Fire Office was held at the
L Board-room in Regent Street, on Tuesday, 27th Feb., 1849, and was very nu-
aerouslyand influentially attended. The Report was highly satisfactory, exhibiting
, steady increase in the business of the Office; and the Accounts showed a consider-
ble profit on the year's transactions, notwithstanding some heavy drawbacks, by
eason of extraordinary expenses, and the prevalence of incendiary fires in some
ural districts. Some suggestions of Mr Beaumont, the Managing Director, for
till further extending the business of the Office, and for securing more perfect
fficiency in every branch of its management, as well as for lightening the labour
'nd increasing the comforts of the Clerks, had been adopted by the Board with everv
drospect of complete success. In consequence of the large accumulation of surplus
Capital, the Directors recommended that the Insured might participate in the
'•eneral prosperity of the Society, and that the septennial dividend or return to
hem should now be fixed and guaranteed to them at the increased rate of Twenty-
?ive per Cent, on the amount of their contributions, independent of the profit or loss
'ipon the business of the Society. These announcements were welcomed with loud
i.pplause, and the Meeting, which was unanimous in feeling, adopted the recom-
mendations of the Directors nem. con.; and, after some discussion on points con-
nected with the business regulations of the Office, separated, greatly pleased with
he satisfactory and cheering statements which had been submitted to it. £ The
Jhair was ably filled by Major- General Fox, M.P., who, at the conclusion of the
Iroceedings, received the warm thanks of the Meeting, for the admirable manner
fa which he had presided over the business, and for the interest he had expressed
\i the prosperity of the Office.
