Letters for Ceylon, and for Hong Kong and China, should be sent by the niails
of the- 18th and 22d, as there is a Packet waiting at the Port de Galle the
arrival of the Steamer conveying this mail ; Letters for these places may also
be sent by the mails of the 1st and oth, provided they are addressed via Bom-
bay, Madras, or Calcutta, and will be charged (except to Ceylon) the additional
rate of 4d. each single rate. On letters for places within the territory of the
East India Company, the payment is optional hy Southampton ; the postage
on all other letters to India, as well as on all letters addressed to countries be-
yond India (Ceylon and Hong Kong excepted), by whatever route they may be
forwarded, must have the postage prepaid.
Indies, British West (except Bahamas and Bermuda), via Southampton, IStli
and last of each month. When the loth falls on a Friday, the mails are made
up on the evening of the 16tli; and when the last falls on Friday, the mails are
made up on the previous evening. Payment optional. Is. under ^-oz., 2s. tinder
1 oz., and so on. To Jamaica (except the town of Kingston), and Berbice, the
postage is Is. 2d. under i oz., 2s. 4d. under 1 oz., and so on. Newspapers, free.
Indies, Foreign West (except Havannah), which see. The mails ai'e made np at
same time as those for "Indies, British West." Payment obligatory, Is. 5d. under
i oz., 2s. lOd. under 1 oz. ; Havannah, 2s. 3d. under ^ oz., 4s. 6d. under 1 oz.
