39 Letters to and through France^
on the 5th and 22d of each month, either unpaid or paid to destination ;
bnt on Letters for the Ionian Islands and the East Indies, sent by such
Closed Mails, the Postage must be prepaid.
PAID LETTERS.
On letters tendered to be paid to France, or on Letters addressed to
places in the Mediterranean or beyond, through France, the whole Postage,
both British and Foreign, will be demanded. The whole postage must be
paid on Letters addressed to India, China, Cei/lon, Sfc., when forwarded
through France.
REGISTERED LETTERS.
Registered Letters to France continue to be sent under the same regula-
tions as formerly; and Registered Letters addressed to countries
through Francevn\[ be treated in like manner ; that is, a Registration Fee
of Is. over and above all rates of Postage, must be paid in advance, the
British rate being the same as on other Letters similarly addressed, but
not registered ; but dotdile the Foreign rates to destination, or to the ut-
most limit to which the Postage can be paid, to which an ordinary
Letter would be liable, Avill be taken, the whole Postage being paid in
advance.
NEWSPAPERS.
English iN'ewspapers may be forv/arded to France hj Packet, free of
Postage, or by Private Ship, for one penny each ; and French Newspapers
are delivered in England far one halfpenny each.
On Newspapers to and from Spain, via France, the rate is one half-
penny each.
On Newspapers to and from Greece, one penny each, if forwarded by
the French Mediterrane,an Packets. Free, if addressed via Trieste.
On Newspapers forwarded by the monthly Closed Mails and not via
Smithamjiton, to or from the Fast Indies, Malta, or any other place in the,
Mediterranean, the rate is od. each; and to Foreign Possessions east-
ward of Calctitta, and not within the territoiy of the East India Company,
the postage is 5c/. each.
On Newspapers to and from all other countries, either on the Conti-;
nent of Europe or beyond sea, passing through France, the rate is 2c/l
each. Prices- Current and Commercial Lists, duly stamped, enjoy the same
privilege as Newspapers.
PERIODICAL WORKS AND PARLIAMENTARY PROCEEDINGS.
Periodical Works, not strictly Newspapers, which are published aS"
Pamphlets, and Parliamentary Proceedings, may be fonvarded to France,
hut to France only, under the following regulations : —
They must be sent in Covers open at the sides, printed in the English
language, and prepaid.
The rates of Postage on such Works and Parliamentary Proceedings
are, —
Not exceeding two ounces in weight, Id.
Above two ounces, and not exceeding three ounces,.... 6rf.
Above three ounces, and not exceeding four ounces,.... 8(f.
And 2d. for every additional ounce up to the weight of 16 ounces, be-
yond which weight no publication can be fonvarded.
The above-mentioned Rates and Regulations apply equally to all
Letters passing between England and France, whether forwarded by tlie
Eegular Mail Packet or by Private Ship.,
