Postage Stamps and Rates.
Postage Stamps.
Stamps may be procured at the General Office, Glassford Street, Stamp
Office, and at the several Receiving- Houses. Labels Id. and 2d. each,
and Covers \\ and 2\ each.
When the Value of Stamps on the Letter is less than the Amount of
the Postage to which it is liable, the Letter will be charged double the
Amount of such difference on delivery.
Stamps may be used for Printed Votes and Proceedings in Parliament,
and on Foreign, Colonial and Ship Letters, &c. outwards. If any let-
ter, however, addressed to places beyond sea, bear an insufficient number
of Stamps, it will be sent to the Dead Letter Office, to be returned, in
all practicable cases, to the writer. Stamps are not permitted to be used
on Letters arriving in the United Kingdom yrom the Colonies or Foreign
Countries.
These Regulations are applicable to Newspapers in those cases where
they are liable to Postage.
If the Stamps affixed to letters have been mutilated or defaced, the
letters will be liable to the unpaid rate.

Unpaid.
Members of either House of Parliament are entitled to receive free of
charge petitions addressed to either House of Parliament, provided they
are sent in covers open at the sides, and do not exceed the weight of thirty-
two ounces. Addresses to Her Majesty go free of postage.
Printed Votes and Proceedings in Parliament are charged at the fol-
lowing rate between places in the United Kingdom, and between the
United Kingdom and the Colonies, when conveyed by packet, but not
through France nor to the East Indies.
Not exceeding 4 ounces, ...... \d.
Exceeding 2 ounces and not exceeding 8 ounces, . 2d.
Exceeding 4 ounces and not exceeding 12 ounces, . 3d.
and so on in proportion, Pre-payment optional.
