The whole Profits belong to the Assured, the Office being free from
Dividends to Proprietors,
There was submitted to the last Annual General Meeting statements
of the business of the Society, as at 3Ist December, 1840, from which it
appeared —
That the business actually done in the ordinary class
of Assurance during the past year was . . X54<7,24il 7
That the Accumulated Fund of the Society at 31st
December, 1840, amounted to . . . . 1,019,239 6 8
That the Annual Revenue at the same date amounted to 178,203 11 7
That the total amount of business done in the ordinary
class from the commencement of the Society to the
end of 1840 was 5,139,750 5 9
That the total amount of the Society's Assurances, of
the ordinary class, still in subsistence, at the end of
1840, was 4,140,977 8 3
That the amount paid under Emerged Policies in
1840, with Bonus Additions, was . . . 48,689 15 10
That the amount paid under Do, with Do. in 1839, was 51,851 15 2
That the total amount paid under Do. with Do. from
the commencement of the Society to the end of
1840, was 390,489 10 II
Every information may readily be obtained on application to the
Manager in Edinburgh, or to any of the Society's Agencies throughout
the country.
