hour or part thereof.
For an airing into the country within eight miles
from the Cross of Edinburgh, and returning
either by the same or a different road, the rate
shall be 3s. for the first hour or part thereof,
and Is. for every twenty minutes or part thereof.
Unless the hirer wishes a slower pace, the rate of
driving when out an airing shall be six miles an
hour. When hackney carriages are engaged by
time, hirer must inform driver of same before
starting. A drive round the Queen's Drive shall
be at the rate of 3s. per hour.
FAKES BY DISTANCE OR BY TIME.
If there be more than four adults driven, a
charge of 6d. extra shall be made for each additional
adult, or for each two children above six years of
age, and under twelve. No additional charge for one
child above six to twelve, or children under six years.
Double fare — from twelve o'clock at nighl
till seven o'clock morning. 1. When the hiring
shall be by time the charge shall be double fare.
2. When the hiring shall be by distance, and the
number of passengers shall not exceed four, the
charge shall be double the fare as for one or two
passengers. 3. For waiting, double charge shall
be allowed. 4. The double charge shall not apply
to luggage.
On Sunday the fares for such carriages as
shall have been previously ordered or engaged, or
hired elsewhere than on the public streets or stances,
shall be fare and a half; but no extra charge is
allowed when cabs are engaged on public stances
or streets.
LUGGAGE.
For luggage exceeding 100 lbs. in weight there
shall be a charge of 6d. extra. But there shall be ^'
no charge for luggage under that weight. C

Complaints for breaches of the foregoing bye-|
laws should bo made at the Procurator-Fiscal' s
Office, 8 City Chambers, immediately.
The driver should deliver to the hirer a reference
ticket, and exhibit his licence, bye-laws, and tablei
of fares when required.
