10 PREFACE.
for this Work by Mr John Bartholomew, F.R.G.S., is revised
down to date. The general appearance of the Volume will also
be found to be considerably improved, it having been printed
from entirely new type by Messrs Murray & Gibb, printers to

Further improvements are under consideration ; meantime
the Publishers return thanks to the gentlemen who have kindly
supplied valuable suggestions and data for the present edition ;
and in the hope that what has been done will meet with public
approval, they trust that the Volume will continue to receive
the liberal support and patronage it has always enjoyed.
