VENETIAN BLINDS.
MESSRS. JOHN ROSS & SONS, Carpet and Floor-cloth Merchants, and
Furniture and Blind Manufacturers, of 11 Lothian Road, Edinburgh,
have long made the manufacture of Venetian Blinds their specialty. As the
result of their experience in this department of industry, the Messrs. Ross now
produce Venetian Blinds of the most improved description, fitted with simple and
effective mechanism, and elegantly finished in the most minute detail. They are
strongly put together, and the best materials only are used in their construction.
It is unnecessary to particularize the several principles embodied in the systems
of regulating gear employed by the Messrs. Ross in their Blinds ; but their various
mechanisms are as free from complication and liability to get out of order as is
compatible with smooth and easy working. Their principal Steam Factory is at
Granton, but they have also extensive Works and Stores at Valleyfield Street,
Edinburgh, the erection of the latter having been completed only a few months
ago.
While the Messrs. Ross give special attention to the manufacture of Venetian
Blinds, in connection with which trade they are best known, the other depart-
ments of their business are not neglected, as may be inferred from the fact, that,
notwithstanding the depressed state of trade during the last three years, their
business has doubled in that time. As an example of what the Messrs. Ross can
do in the way of Venetian Blind Manufacture, we may mention that they com-
pleted in four weeks a contract for some Four Thousand Blinds for the Edinburgh
New Royal Infirmary. Messrs. John Ross & Sons do a very large business also
in Carpets, Furniture, and Cloth and Gauze Blinds, and more particularly just
now in Blinds made of those striped and coloured materials which seem to be at
present so much in vogue. The name of their firm is becoming increasingly
familiar in connection with the export trade ; and on the occasion of our visit to
their works, a few days ago, we noticed the finishing touches being put to some
important contracts in Venetian Blinds for South Africa.
