REGULATIONS FOR PORTERS,

^ By an ad of the Maj^iftrates and Town Council of Gl.ifgow, no
portei ftiall iefr.se employment when he is not oiherwife tngsged,
under the penalty of 2«. 6d. fterling for the firft offence, 5s, for the
fecond, and 10s. for every I'ubfequent offence; and all Porters who
fay they are engaged, fiiall fpecify the perfon by whom, and the
hour at whith, they are engaged, and they ftiall not refufe to be
cn-.p'oycd in the iuteival between the time they are required to
f^rve and the hour of their engatjenr.ent, under the penalties aforc-
faid. As the Porters who wear badges on their breaft, find fecu-
rity for their honLlly and fidelity, the Magiftrates recommend it
to the ii^abitants to employ only thofe Porters in matters of im-
portance. — The following is a Table of their fees.

* Car-yin^ a iffter or letters, parcel or parcpls, not exceed-
ing 7 pounds weight, from any part of the City or New-
town to any other place therein, - - - 1
Cirrying a letter or letters, parcel or parcels, not exceed-
ing 7 pounds weight, from any part of the City or New-
town to any other place therein, if delivered to the Porter
after nine o'clock Et night, - - - OS
Carrying a letter or letter?, parcel or parcels, not exceed-
ing 7 pounds weight, fiom any part of the City or New-
town to Anderfton, Bridgetown, New Bafon of the Canal,
or any place net exceeding tn English mile from the Crofs, O 3

Fr.r running an exprefs with a letter, or Imail parcel, for
every English mile outwards in day time, - 2

Carrying a back load, not exceeding eight English stone
from any ware-room in Glafgow to any other v/are-room
