"When sent to any Gennan State, Kussia,
Denmark, Turkey, Moldavia, Wal-
lachia, etc., via Belgium, to Austria
via France, to Greece, the Ionian
Islands, the United States, Azores,
Cape de Yerds, Madeira, or Portugal,
unbound proof sheets (but these only)
may contain ordinaiy corrections of
the press ; and a packet sent to the
United States may, in addition, con-
tain the written name and address of
the sender.
No packet must exceed 18 inches in
width, depth, or length, when sent to
Turkey, Syria, or Egypt by French
Packet, or to the Azores, Cape de
Yerds, Madeira, or Portugal.
Books sent to Spain, the Balearic and
Canaiy Islands, must be unbound;
and no prints, music, maps, or draw-
ings are allowed, unless they form
part of the publication with which
they are sent.
*Cases, rollei-s, maps, book-markers,
pencils, pens, etc., may not be sent
in a packet of printed papers to any
country besides those marked thus*.
Photographs on paper may be sent only
to the countries marked thus X a^nd
to the United States.
French offices are established at Alex-
andria, Alexandretta, Beyrout, Cairo,
Constantinople, Dardanelles, Galatz,
Gallipoli, Ibraila, Ineboli, Jaffa, Ke-
rassun, Latakia, Mersina, Mitylene,
Porto Said, Ehodes, Salonica, Sam-
soun, Smyrna, Sulina, Tangier.?,
Tripoliin Syria, Trebizond, Tultscha,
Tunis, Yarna, Yolo.
In Spain, as a rule, the circulation is prohibited of all articles which are not either letters or printed
papers ; but patterns and samples may be sent imder the following regulations : —
1. The patterns or samples themselves must be of no intrinsic value whatever.
2. They must be enclosed in covers open at the ends or sides, or in such other manner as to admit
of a thorough inspection.
3. The covers must contain no writing except the usual trade marks and numbers.
4. Packets of patterns and samples thus forwarded will be liable in this country to the same rates
of postage as ordinaiy letters for Sisain, viz. Gd. for a packet not exceeding a quarter of an
ounce in weight, increasing for heavier weights at the rate of 6d. for each quarter of an
ounce ; and such postage must in all cases be paid in advance.
