LIFE DEPARTMENT.
A THIRD Valuation of the Company's Life Risks was completed in June 1838, and
•^^ the Directors have great satisfaction in stating- its result ; the Tables annexed
show the additions made to the Company's Life Policies. If parties will take the trouble of
comparmg tJie Bonus to which a Policy in this office is entitled, with what would attach to a
Policy of similar standing at other Offices, (a comparison that may very readily be made, as
the printed Proposals of Assurance Companies generally show the amount of periodical ad-
ditions), it will be seen that such comparison is very favourable to this Company.
The Directors having recently had under their consideration the rates of Premium for
Life Assurances, have determined to reduce them considerably for the younger ages, so far
as they refer to assurances made for shorter periods than the whole term of life. It is con-
fidently trusted that this i-eduction in the short term premiums will be found highly useful to
such parties as are obliged to insure their lives to perfect securities for temporary loans of
money ; inasmuch as the savings in the premium of assurance will, in some cases, be nearly
15 per cent.
TABLE 1st,
Showing the additions made to Policies for L.IOOO, which have been in force for the full
period of Seven Years ending at Christmas 1837, and also the amounts that would be de-
ducted from all future payments of Annual Premium thereon.
TABLE 2d,
Showing the total additions made to Life Policies for L.IOOO effected in London, or through
an agent in Great Britain, which had been in force for the Twenty»one Years ending at
Christmas 1837.
Equivalent Reductions have been made in the future payments of Premium, where the
arties assured have desired to have the amount of surplus Premiums so applied.
