ASSURANCES are effected by this Society to the extent of L.5000, upon the same sole or joint or
surviving life or lives, and are not confined to the profession of the Law, but are open to persons ia
every station in life. Four- Fifths of the Profits made by this Society will be appropriated to the Persons
assured for the whole term of life.
On the 31st of December, 1840, and at the end of every Seven Years from that period, the profits divi-
sible amongst the Assured will be apportioned amongst such of the Assured for the whole term of Life, as
shall have been so assured "for the space of three years or upwards, previously to those periods respectively,
subject only to the reservation of such a sum of money as the Directors shall deem necessary to be carried
forward, to the period of the next septennial division, for the benefit of the Assured. For the amounts
which shall be so apportioned, equivalent reversionary sums will be added to the Policies respectively of those
entitled.
The subjoined is a Specimen Table of Bonuses, in even pounds, added to Policies of L.IOOO each,
which had been in force during the first ten years of the existence of the Society, and declared on the 31st
December, 1833, compared with the amount of Premiums that had been received and improved at interest.
Note Due allowance must be made for extreme and intermediate ages, and the difference of years
during which the Assurances, have been in force ; but the general distribution has been made on the
principle, and according to the scale above given.
If any persons should wish to discontinue the payment of his annual Premium, the ^Directors have power
either to purchase his Policy for a sum of money payable immediately, or, in consideration of its surrender,
to grant a new Policy, without any further annual Premium, for a sum to be agreed upon, payable at the
decease of the life assured. And the person to whom such new Policy is granted will be entitled in respect
thereof, to participate in the periodical divisions of the profits.
Persons who shall have been insured for the space of two years, in L.IOOO or upwards, for the whole con-
tinuance of life, have the power of electing either from among the Proprietors or from among themselves,
two of the four Auditors of the Society.
Parties may arrange to pay their Premiums either in a single payment, by annual payments during the
whole continuance of the Assurance, or by annual payments during a Hmited number of years only.
No entrance money is required ; nor any extra Premium on persons in the Army or Navy, unless in
actual service. Assurances may be effected upon the lives of persons residing at a distance from London,
by their appearing before a Solicitor in the country ; and the payment of a fine for non-appearance at this
Office is then dispensed with.
The Assured are allowed to pass by sea from one part of the United Kingdom to another, and to and
from the Islands of Guernsey, Jersey, Alderney, Sark, and Man ; and also, in time of peace, in Queen's
ships, and packet or passage vessels, to and from British and Foreign ports in the English Channel, between
the Texel and Brest, both inclusive, without any special leave or license from the Directors.
The sums due on the Policies will be paid within three months after proof of the requisite facts.
Assurances may he effected tliroiigh ani/ respectable Attorney or Solicitor in England, of whom Pro-
spectuses may be had. A party may himself effect an Assurance by writing to the Actuary, or attending
personally at the Society's Office in Fleet Street.
The Assured are requested to take notice, that no renewal Premiums are ever received from themselves
or their Agents, without printed receipts, signed by two Directors and the Actuary, being issued from this
Office.
Attendance is given daily, from Nine o clock in the morning till Four in the afternoon, at the Office,
where the terms of Assurances may be had, Propos»ls for effecting Assurances received, and every informa-
