Notes |
Thomas Thomson (1768-1852) was a scholarly Edinburgh advocate and friend of Sir Walter Scott. He wrote extensively on Scottish history and was put in charge of Scotland's public records which he did much to restore and maintain. This is an annotated copy of his study of Scottish feudal tenure and its importance for a disputed count in the Midlothian election of 1812. It is one of only two known examples with this title page and was presumably printed for his own use. Within the volume there are several long and detailed annotations including at least two which identify their author as Thomas Thomson. All his annotations are scholarly and elaborate, sometimes posing questions of himself and frequently correcting his own facts, grammar and adding citations. |
