The purchase of the first edition of this work compliments the Library's holdings of the 3rd (1866) and 5th (1869) from which it differs in some of the illustrations. The book teaches observation skills to children with over 100 hand-coloured illustrations depicting animals, plants, games, activities, farm life, objects found in the home, types of work with captions posing questions for readers to answer. Being a children's book it is now rare to find an example in such good condition. |
