'TPHE obj'ect of the Home is to provide primarily for the fatherless and/or motherless children of those
-■• below Warrant Rank serving or who have served in His Majesty's Navy or Royal Marines.
If accommodation is available to receive the children of men below Warrant Rank serving or who
have served in His Majesty's Navy or Royal Marines when very special circumstances render this
desirable in the interests of the children.
To give the children a useful and reUgious education according to the principles of the Church of
England, and to support and clothe them. To train the girls for such occupation as the Directors deem
advisable. To give appropriate training and equipment to the boys.
In selecting children for entry each case will be considered on its merits. As a general rule fatherless
children will be deemed to have first claim.
In every case the Directors will determine according to the circumstances of the case whether a
contribution is to be made by the parent or guardian to assist in the maintenance of the child and what
the amount of the contribution shall be.
In the Home there is accommodation for 100 girls, these are eligible for admission between the ages
of 7 and 1 1 years. There is also accommodation for 30 infant boys and girls between the ages of 4 and
7 years.
The girls are under the guidance of a capable Matron, assisted by properly quahfied instructresses;
between the ages of 14 and 16 they are subject to a course of domestic training in the Home, unless they
have qualified for the Secondary School course, when their schooling is continued, and every girl who
shows a particular aptitude for any special subject is given facilities for pursuing her studies at the
Municipal College.
Boys over the age of 7 years are sent to the Swanley Home in Kent, where they are maintained and
educated until they reach the age of 14. Suitable boys who wish to go to sea are retained there until
tiiey are 16 and given special education and facilities for entering the Mercantile Marine as apprentices.
Accommodation for 71 boys, maintained by the funds of the Home, is avaOable at Swanley.
The Directors depend upon voluntary contributions lor funds to carry on the Home ; the number
of children they can receive is governed by the amount of pecuniary support given. They therefore
confidently appeal for help in carrying on and extending these works of usefulness, rescuing from want
and misery, and educating and rendering fit for a useful and happy life the children of those who have
served their Country, and who in many cases whilst thus engaged, have lost their lives in war or by
shipwreck or illness.
Visitors are cordially invited to view the Institution, which is open daily for inspection from 2 p.m.
till 6 p.m., Sundays excepted.

THE object of the Home is to provide for the fatherless children of our Seamen and Marines, and ensure
them a practical training. Every effort is made to secure good situations for the girls on leaving
the Home. The majority of the boys go to sea, either in the Royal Navy or the Merchant Service.
" Nore Scholarships " at the Chatham Secondary School for girls, at the expense of the Funds, have
been instituted.
Since its foimdation 201 girls have been received into the Home and 134 boys have been admitted
and maintained at Swanley at the expense of the institution.
All denominations are accepted, and orphans of men of the R.N.R. and R.N.V.R., who have lost
their Uves whilst on duty in the Royai Navy, are equally eligible with those of men of the Royal Navy.
Age for admission 5 to 12 years.
The Home is governed by a Committee of officers and men, who earnestly Invite visitors to view the
Home.
The extent of the good work of the Home depends on voluntary contributions, and all donations
will be gratefully received. Donations should be sent to the Hon. Treasurer and all correspondence to
the Hon. Secretary, addressing in both cases to the Royal Naval Barracks, Chatham.
