Officers on ihe Active List travelling from or to their ships, when on fuU pay, or
from or to a Naval Hospital, are eligible to travel by rail at Government expense.
Retired Officers and Officers of the Reserve of Officers of the Royal Navy
and Royal Marines are eligible for admission provided that the accommodation
is not required by Officers or Civil Servants on the Active List.

THE FLORENCE NIGHTINGALE HOSPITAL
FOR GENTLEWOMEN.

This Hospital was founded in 1860 by VISCOUNTESS CANNING and organised
by MISS FLORENCE NIGHTINGALE, who acted as the First Lady Superintendent
before she left for the Crimea.
Its object is to provide gratuitous medical and surgical treatment for ladies of
limited means, Governesses, Artists, Hospital Nurses and relatives of the Clergy,
Naval, Military and Professional Men.
Patients are attended by eminent Physicians and Surgeons from the Staffs of
the leading London Hospitals.
The income is derived from patients' fees, which vary from £2 2s. to £4 4«. per
%eek, equalling about half of the total expenditure, and from investments which
bring in about £300. The Balance ot some £3,000 has to be made up by annua)
subscriptions and donations.
