Promotion In the Special Reserve will be granted
s follows, but Officers will be required to pass the
xaminations laid down for Officers of the Special
Reserve of Officers of the Army before advance-
ment :—
For Lieutenant 3 years' service.
For Captain 11 years' service.
Exemptions from these examinations will be
illoiTed as in the Special Reserve of the Army.
Temporary Officers appointed to the Special
Reserve will be required to pass the examination
aid down for their rank, unless exempted.
13. Eemoval from Reserve. -Officers will be
•emoved from the Special Reserve of Officers as
ollows:—
(a) For misconduct.
(6) On resignation. If acee, led by too Admiralty.
(o) If medically unfit for Active Service.
Id) At the age of 45, except in the ease of Officers
appointed under Paragraph 2 lb) and (o, who
will be removed at 60 years of age.
14. Training /cs.— Subject to compliance with the
provisions of Paragraph 8, and the conditions set
forth below an Officer of the Special Reserve may
be granted a retaining fee of £20 for each completed
year of service:—
(a) Ordinarily the fee will tie payable annually
in arrear on or after the 1st January of each
year on application to the Accountant-
General of the Navy.
(6) The first payment will be due on the 1st
January following tlie year in which the
Officer completed his first period of training,
or, if entered from civil life, in which he was
confirmed, and will bear the same proportion
to the full anuual fee as the number of days
subsequent to the completion of training,
or to confirmation, as the case may be, bears
to the total number of clays in the calendar
year.
(o) Similarly the final payment on the Officer's
removal from the Special Reserve, and any
other payment that may be due for a period
less than a calendar sear, will be propor-
tionate to the period to which it relates.
:d) No paymtnt will be due in respect of any
period during which the Officer is serving,
and in receipt of pay from the Crown, during
a time of national e'. ergency, but such
service will be deemed to be the equivalent
of annual training for the purpose of qualify-
ing the * fTcer fo ' retaining fees during
fractional rarts of a calendar year preceding
and succeeding such service.
it) A retaining fee will not be paid to an Officer
after his removal from the Special Roserve
for misconduct or for any other cause which,
in the opinion of the Admiralty, renders him
ineligible.
A retaining fee may, however, be paid, if
due, to the legal representative of an Officer
who dies while a member of the Special
Reserve.
15. Pay during training and when called out far
servioe.—la) Officers of the Special Reserve In
receipt of pension as Warrant Officer, Class l.will
be entitled, during training and during service in
time of War or Emergency, to receive their pensions
concurrently with the full pay of their rank. They
will receive in addition a Training F<=e of £20
annually under the above conditions, provided
Annual Tiaining is carried out.
(o) Officers of the Special Reserve who are in
receipt of Retired Pay or Pension (except Officers
pensioned as Warrant Officer, Class I), when called
out for service in time of War or Emergency will be
paid under i he Regulations applicable to the Reserve
of Officers, R M. (Order in Council, 12 March, 1903,
vide extract given below). If they attend far
training they will receive the full pay and allowances
of their rank, but will cease to draw their RotUed
Pay or Pension during such period.
(c) In the case of any such Officer in the Special
Reserve who has commuted his Retired Payor Pen-
sion, or who received a gratuity on discharge, a
deduction will be made from his Full Pay equal to
the amount of Retired Pay o*- Pension commuted, or
to the annual value of the giatuity.
16. Greenwich Hospital Petition. — Warrant Officers,
Class I, appointed to Commissions in the Special
Reserve will remain eligible for the Greenwich
Hospital Pension allowed for Warrant Officers,
Royal Maiines.
17. These regulations are subject to amondment
from time to time as may be found necessary in the
interests of the Service.

VII.
Pay, All wances and Gratuities.— A Reserve
Officer who is recalled for service with the Corps
will cease to draw his retired pay (if any) from the
date of recall, and will receive instead:
(a) If no portion of retired pay has been com-
muted : —
The pay and allowances of an Officer of
corresponding rank on Active List, together
with a bonus of 26 per cent, for every pound
of full pay earned (exclusive of allowances).
(f>)If any portion of his retired pay has been
commuted :—
The above rates of pay, subject to the
deduction of any commuted retired pay, with
bonus calculated as stated above.
(o) If retired with a gratuity:—
The pay and allowances of an Officer if
corresponding rank on the Active List,
subject to a deduction equal to the annual
value of the gratuity, w. in bonus as stated
above.
