REGULATIONS FOR HIS MAJESTY'S LEVEES AT
ST. JAMES'S PALACE.
At all Levees, which wU be held at 12 o'clock noon.
Cards of Admission will be required, whether for
Presentation or Attendance, as the numbers at each
of these ceremonies must be limited.
The following are the rules to be observed.

All Officers, whether active or on the retired lists,
of the Royal Navy and the Royal Marines, of what-
ever rank, will communicate with and obtain their
cards from the Private Secretary to the First Lord of
the Admiralty. All Civil Officers of the Admiralty
will follow the same rule. Application should be
made when the date of the Levee, for which a card is
desired, has been announced in the press by the
Lord Chamberlain but not before.
The names both for attendance and presentation
must be received at the Admiralty not later than
eight days prior to the date of each Levee.
Occasions on whiah Offlcera may be presented by the
First Lord of the Admiralty.
1.— On receiving a Commission In the Royal Navy.
2.— On promotion to the rank of Commander, or to
corresponding rank in other branches of tho
^erv^ce, and after that on every step.
Retired ofBcers are not presented on receiving a
step in rank.
3.— On appointment to the command of a ship.
4.— On appointment to the command of a station or
squadron, or to a principal post at the
Admiralt.v.
.5.— On return from active service durin? War or
from any special service abroad, or on return
from the command of a station or squadron.
6.— On appointment to one of the Royal Yachts, or as
Aide-divCamp to the King.
7.— On appointment to or promotion in any Order
when not personally invested with the iusienia'
by His Majesty.

The QUEEN'S most excellent Majesty in Council.
Whebeas there was this day read at the Board a
Memorial from the Right Honourable the Lords
Commissioners of the Admiralty, dated the 8th day
of May 1891, in the words following, viz. :—
" Whereas it has been deemed advisable, in the
Interests of your Majesty's Service, that the custody,
&c., of Naval Ordnance Stores should be transferred
to the Admiralty; and whereas it is also deemed
necessary that certain Officers, and Warrant Officers
of Your Majesty's Ordnance Store Department
should be transferred to the Admiralty tor the con-
duct of the duties connected with the transferred
Ordnance Stores.
" We beg leave most humbly to recommend that
Your Majesty will be graciously pleased, by yonr
Order in Council, to sanction the following rates of
my and retirement to the Army Officers who may
Be appointed to the Naval Ordnance Department).
The scaln of pay to be as follows :—
• Naval Ordnance Officer, £800 by £20 annually, to
£?«>, with an additional £100 a year to the
Officer In eharf« qt Woolwlota Arsemkl,
"Deputy Naval Ordnance Officer, £426 by £20
annually, to £525.
"Assistant Naval Ordnance Officer. £250 by £15
annually, to £350.
"The above Officers, when quarters are not pro-
vided, to receive, in addition to these rates of pav.
£100, £76, and £50 a year, according to theirrospective
grade.
"When on Foreign service they will receive the
special Colonial allowances granted under Admiralty
Regulations, and, when quarters are not provided,
.inch house allowances as may be fixed by the
Admiralty with the concurrence of the Treasurj'.
" The commencing pay of the Officers transferred
will be: —
" Navc^l Ordnance Officera.
"(a) An .Assistant Commissary General of Ord
nance, having the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel,
the maximum pay of the Office.
"(b) An Assistant Commissary General of Ord-
nance, with the rank of Major, the minimum
pay of the Office.
" Deputy Naval Ordnance Offlaers.
"'c) An Assistant Commissary General of Ord-
nance, with the rank of Major, the maximum
pay of the Office.
" (d) 4 Deputy Coramlasary General of Ord-
nanoe, the mintmnm pay ol the Oltloe,
